Hubert Duprat, insects build gold flake and pearl cocoons.

It can’t be denied that insects, though not a popular topic of conversation in most cases, are becoming increasingly more popular in various aspects of our (not so) daily life. Although usually brought up in conversations as a new source of protein, Hubert Duprat saw a more aesthetic purpose for this crawly creatures. I first got in contact with Duprats work at the exposition of international fashion designer Dries Van Noten at the MOMU in Antwerp. Dries shows all his art, fashion, music and other inspirations in relation with his collections and Duprat was one of them. I was really intrigued and started some research on this artist’s work.

Oh yes, I knew the installation all ready for years. I saw it in books catalogues and even on the camera of my man when he visited the Saatchi Gallery some time ago. I never saw the masterpiece in real life. So when I had to be in London for a trend seminar, I had some time left so I ended up in a cab direction Saatchi Gallery. I did not realize this work was a permanent installation, so when I wandered around in the spacious gallery, I found myself suddenly in the basement. I smelled it straight way. I knew it immediately: the fab work of Richard Wilson was right in front of me.

‘The Artist is Absent’ – an insider short film on Martin Margiela.

My true admiration for master Margiela is profound. I know his work from the start, although at that time I could not afford his clothes. But I know about the memorable subway station show, the covered/masked faces in every show so delicately different from one and other, the brilliant make up-time after time- by Belgium’s best make up artist ever Inge Grognard, the wigs flowing over in hair-made coats, the bedcover coat (I got one!!) and much more great stories about Martins rebellion against a tide of commercialism that gamed out creativity.
