Dries Van Noten_Inspiration walk in his creative master mind.

After a great first edition in Paris in 2014, the exhibition of one of Belgium’s most creative, loved by all ànd successful fashion designers has ‘landed’ in Antwerp. The Momu (Antwerp’s own fashion museum) invited Dries Van Noten to set up a second edition of his inspiration show and as we all know, a home run in your home town is always most rewarding. The nice thing is that the exhibition is not a copy of Paris, but a next step. With new insights, exciting inspiration work from Dries his heroes and influencers, a beautiful setting and a core selection of all Dries’ 25 collections over the years. I had the privilege to walk trough the exhibit with a collaborator of the Momu who worked with Dries personally on this show. She knew how the process evolved and how Dries was intensively creative engaged.

My ‚image of the day’ is a series of ‚images of the day’ by Mike Mellia. Mike also posts each day a picture of himself in a series that has the name „ A selfie a day keeps the doctor away’. Ah, a series of selfies’ you think. Right. You could call them selfies, but in the old days they were called graciously ‚Self portraits’. Mike has humor and this shows in the titles he gives his work. What to think about: „That one time my wife cropped my picture” or „That one time I saw who shot JFK”, or this one: „That one time I visited a Dutch astronomer”? And it goes on.

The streets of New York City, well known from visit visits, various movies and TV shows, are lined with loads of a abandoned, discarded domestic stuff. Think used furniture, books, plants, toys and tiles. Photographer  Justin Bettman and Brooklyn-based prop stylist Gozde Eker have been inspired by these seemingly random objects and used them to create poetic, fun  scenes, crafted entirely from unwanted materials they found abandoned on the sidewalks. Bedrooms, bathrooms and living rooms are built with wallpaper, tables, posters and assorted props, each which seek to tell the story of the family, couple or single inhabitants that are meant to reside in the spaces.
