The Recollection_a life inspiration story

Recollected A Memory, a souvenir Lived trough atmospheres Blathered paint, Oxidation Reinterpretations ©Photo Press The Wicked PR  Very high brow words to introduce the Antwerp based new  concept store ‘The Recollection’. The idea: the 3 TRC curators with a ‘big’ love for the pure and poetic gather their favorite design, fashion, books and art objects in a white-washed gallery-like space. The integrated flower corner reflects perfectly the contemporary interest for XL ‘forgotten’ plants and flowers.(We know these flower arrangements from 70 ties porn books and Wallpapers* installation this year on Milan’s Salone di Mobile) New? No.  Similar projects are happening in every ‘creative’ city. Paris has Merci http://thesquidstories.blogspot.be/2012/11/merci-merci-life-inspiration-day.html, Brussels has Hunting and Collecting http://www.huntingandcollecting.com/shop/, London and NY Dover Street Market http://www.doverstreetmarket.com to name just a few. The 3 curators present a lot of things and objects we all ready collected at home during city hopping in Paris, Milan, Amsterdam, Berlin, Brussels… But that is the concept off course: collect for others what you like, and sell it back together with other beautiful stuff. Very surprising? No. A nice collection of names, …

Tried & enjoyed: Wasbar Antwerp open!

No need to explain the concept. (See post on the very first WASBAR in my home town Ghent, October 14 th 2012.)  Check out http://thesquidstories.com/?p=566   Wasbar in short: a huge success story about washing your laundry in a hip bar slash hairdresser salon slash meeting spot, great press, enthousiastic fans and a waiting line for the Sunday Brunches (“Yuri and Dries, please get me a table next week: we come with 7…”)   It was a question of time that a second venue opened to serve other cities for their dirty laundry and need for a drink. Antwerp was the obvious choice and a fantastic spot was found in a much bigger building.  Never change a winning team: owners Yuri and Dries, design agency Pinkeye http://www.pinkeye.be, PR lady Saskia from The Wicked PR http://www.thewicked.be and sponsors Ecover, Electrolux and yes,… the sexiest underwear brand in Belgium Eskimo http://www.originaleskimo.com, all present!   Brand new extra’s? The tasty food concept ‘WASBAR TOAST’ by Ghent’s famous Wim Ballieu from ‘Balls & Glory’ http://www.ballsnglory.be. How does it work? Take two bread slices and fill them with minced meat, …

Nr°30 – image of the day

Photo: Andrew Thomas for the International Herald Tribune As a Belgian fashion lover, I could NOT resist posting this  exceptional photo of the one and only ‘Antwerp Six‘, 30 years after their legendary London show.Ann Demeulemeester, Dirk Bikkembergs, Walter Van Beirendonck, Marina Yee, Dirk Van Saene and Dries Van Noten. Names that are today very respected and loved by the entire international fashion crowd.Enjoy this group reunion picture, 30 years after their long gone student days, to celebrate their school’s 50th anniversary. A rare moment. For the ones that don’t have a clue what I’m talking about: back in the 1980s the ‘Antwerp Six’ went to London to show together-mostly for budget reasons. The rest in history.
