A Burner from a distance-a life inspiration story

I always loved the Burning Man festival.
When I was in NY for Addict Magazine in 2000, I met some ‘Burners’ just returned from the festival. They were so full of joy and energy about what they’d experienced, and they told me Burning Man was sooo made for me.
Since than, I’m to regular reader of Jack Rabbit’s newsletter for future Burners, but no, I never made it to the Nevada desert(YET!!). I could have, but my good friend Arne ‘forgot’ to invite me, when he left with Jaga to build the Belgian waffle. I never forgave him 🙂
One day, I’ll be there in Black Rock City, together with my kids, some friends, my man. I will be so ready!

When I see a performance or an extra ordinary art installation made for BM, special attention is guaranteed.
So did this ‘desert forest, an enormous field of white plastic strips, blowing in the Nevada wind.

For the 2012 Burning Man festival, New York-based designer Phoenix created a 2322-sq-m ‘forest’ made from curtains of rippling white plastic, and assembled it in the Nevada desert.
The forest was protected from dust storms by a wooden fence. A floor of foam and fake fur provided a comfortable spot for sky viewing. While the forest didn’t offer shade, visitors could walk through the undulating curtain of white,  or lie down and peer up through the canopy into the sky.
The installation included glowing lights, sound and ‘clearings’ where visitors could gather and reflect.

Nice.
